From personalized tumblers and custom mugs to beautiful gifts and small business creations, sublimation printing has become one of my favorite ways to create vibrant, long-lasting designs. I love watching a blank product transform into something truly special with a little heat, creativity, and imagination.

My Favorite Sublimation Essentials

Helpful Tip: If you're planning to start sublimation printing with an Epson EcoTank printer, I highly recommend beginning with a brand-new Epson ET-8550 and filling it exclusively with sublimation ink from day one. If the printer has previously been used with standard inkjet ink, you'll need to completely flush the system before converting it for sublimation use.

To help keep your printer performing beautifully, try to print something every day. If that's not possible, print a simple purge page every 2–3 days to help prevent print head clogs and maintain consistent print quality. A little preventative maintenance goes a long way and can save you both time and frustration while extending the life of your printer.

*Always use heat-resistant transfer tape to secure your sublimation designs before pressing. Unlike Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV), sublimation prints can easily shift during the pressing process—even the slightest movement may result in a blurry, shadowed, or distorted image (often called "ghosting"). Properly securing your design helps ensure crisp, vibrant, and professional-looking results every time.

*Rather than using Teflon sheets or reusable protective paper, I prefer to use everyday parchment paper to protect my heat press from any sublimation ink that may bleed during pressing. I also recommend using a fresh sheet each time instead of reusing it, as any transferred ink can unintentionally be pressed onto your next project. It's an inexpensive way to help prevent ghosting, unwanted ink transfer, and ruined blanks while keeping your equipment clean and protected.
